3 Design Tips to Pull It All Together

Sometimes when you redesign a room, you choose your paint colors, your furniture, your lighting, your flooring, but somehow when you put it all together, it doesn’t look finished. Maybe it even feels disjointed or incomplete. Standing in your new space with that feeling instead of loving the result is painful. You might wonder how this can happen when you’ve worked so hard to make thoughtful choices along the way. Often, the solution is as simple as adding items that tie your different color or style choices together. In other words, creating harmony in your new design.

One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is through color cohesion. Threading a color throughout your room can help tie your design together as well as make the space feel balanced throughout. Color can also be used to help blend different styles. Most spaces aren’t limited to just one style. They’re mixed. Some of your furniture may be contemporary with a vintage or rustic item in the mix. Sharing a similar color scheme among those pieces will help you blend the different styles.

Here are three items you can add to your redesigned room to help pull it all together. After all, It’s not finished until it feels finished.

Three Additions to Finish Your Space

1. A nice big area rug.

A sizable rug can contain many different colors. By choosing just the right rug, you can make the elements of your room feel connected. Make sure to take your time. Be picky to ensure you get “just the right” rug. The added benefit of an area rug is it helps your room feel grounded and by bringing color to the floor, creating a better sense of “color flow” throughout.

2. Beautiful artwork.

Artwork can bring the same benefits as an area rug. The concept is the same. The only real difference is that you are putting the color up on vertical planes instead of down on the horizontal plane. Artwork can help blend different styles in your room as well. Remember that having multiple styles is fine, and can be terrific, if you find a way to help them work together and make sense.

3. Window treatments.

This option also allows you to add color and style to your vertical space, directly matching another color or creating harmony by introducing a complimentary color. Window treatments are often the main element a room that adds texture, which adds interest and often connects the styles within your space by reinforcing the choices already in place.

If you implement one or two of these tips as you redesign your space, you will create a lovely feeling of balance and harmony and make your new room feel complete. Enjoy the view!
