So when it comes to creating a loving living space, the message is clear: Renters need love, too! Today we embrace these underserved dwellers as I share five renter-friendly ideas guaranteed to add personality and color to your home.

Five Renter-Friendly Decorating Ideas

Decorating a rental can be tricky since renters often can't make permanent changes. The creative, non-permanent ideas that follow will help renters personalize their space without breaking any rules. Plus, they also can be handy for homeowners looking to save time and money and add convenience!

1. Removable Wall Decals/Wallpaper

• This is a great way to get color and pattern up onto your walls without any permanent commitment. Also easy to remove without any damage to the walls.

2. Area Rugs

• Rugs are a can go a long way to define spaces, add warmth, and bring in color or texture. They're easy to swap out whenever you decide you want to change the vibe.

3. Command Hooks for Art and Décor

• If you live somewhere that you can’t use nails or screws to hang artwork, consider using damage-free adhesive hooks to hang art, mirrors, and shelves. These hooks are renter-friendly and won’t leave holes in the wall.

4. Window Treatment Upgrades

• Swap out standard rental blinds for colorful drapes. Make sure you know the rules here before you try this option as some apartment communities want uniform window treatments showing from the outside. If that’s the case, you can fine lined drapes that give the needed look from the outside. If you have an apartment that has blinds or shades already installed and they need to remain, consider layering drapery over the top so you can get the color you want on the inside. With a little effort, you can find drapery rods that are easy to install and easy to remove.

• Bring in greenery! Plants instantly brighten up any space and add life to a room. Choose easy-to-care-for plants like succulents or snake plants if you're not a plant expert. Not only will the plants add color, dimension, and life to your home, you can choose colorful pots that will also add to the overall look and style that you want to create.
