3 More Simple, Affordable DIY Holiday Decorations

3 More Simple, Affordable DIY Holiday Decorations

Happy holidays! La-la-la-la! Luckily, you only have to read me singing instead of hearing me sing. Also lucky for you, I’m much better at crafting than singing. So, without further a-doo-wop, read on for three more DIY holiday projects you can complete with very little time or money.

The first project is wrapped and decorated empty boxes to add spirit to a space that doesn’t already have gifts under a tree.  It’s also a great decoration for outside your front door!  You can make these as fancy as you like. Bonus: This is a great way to use the gazillion delivery boxes we all seem to accumulate this time of year.

ITEMS NEEDED

·Empty boxes – simply choose sizes that will look best for your finished stack

·Wrapping supplies – paper, bows, ribbon, etc.  Choose the longest rectangular wrapping paper available to get multiple packages out of one.

TIP: If you plan to use this decoration outside, instead of wrapping paper use holiday vinyl tablecloths that will hold up in wet conditions. You can find these in all the discount stores and dollar stores. They’re super affordable and come in many colors. Duct tape will hold up better outside to secure your wrapping – just use a big enough piece so the ends will tuck under the package hiding the tape.

PROCESS:

1.       Close all flaps of your boxes and secure them with tape

2.       Wrap them with wrapping paper or vinyl tablecloths for outdoor use

3.       Secure the decorating boxes with duct table on the bottom of each box to form a stack

4.       Decorate with bows, ribbon, or anything else to create the look you want

TIP: For outdoor use, you may want to use a large ribbon or craft twine to tie the entire stack together and help keep everything secure.

The second project: a set of candle holders. These are beautiful in a bigger group as a centerpiece on your dining table or equally pretty with just a pair on an entry or side table.

ITEMS NEEDED:

· Mason jars of any size desired

· Frosted glass spray paint (available at home stores)

· Craft twine

· Small decorations you can thread on the twine

· Regular or battery-powered candles that fit within the jars with plenty of room to spare

PROCESS:

1.       Spray your jars with the frosted paint

2.       Allow time to dry completely.

3.       Use twine and decorations to go around the neck of your jar

4.       Light your candles and enjoy

The third project is a set of candle holders, customizable to match any mood or décor year-round.

 ITEMS NEEDED:

· Glass vases – sizes, style, and number depending on your vision. Discount stores, dollar stores, and thrift stores are great places to find these clear glass vases.

· Small decorative items to place inside the vase. Again, super affordable in your local shops.

·Crafting water beads. You can find these at your local crafting supply stores, online, and sometimes in a Walmart. Although they come in various colors, I chose clear. The amount you’ll depends on the size of vase you use.

·Water, added after decorating to fill up the vase.

· Floating candles. You can find these in most places with party and wedding supplies. Match your vase size.

PROCESS:

1.       Pour a layer of the water beads into your vase

2.       Place desired decorations in the next layer

3.       Continue this stacking process until vase is roughly 3/4 full

4.       Add water filling almost the top

5.       Place your floating candle in, light and enjoy

I realize these three projects are easy and perhaps don’t require detailed instructions. But since the holidays are busy and stressful, I’m trying to do everything I can to help you out. Keeping things simple and cheap is a great way to add more merry to your holidays!
