FROM BATHROOM TO SPA FOR VERY LITTLE MONEY!
Do you have a main bath, master bath, or powder room that makes you cringe or at least sigh every time you walk in? If so, cringe and sigh no more. You are not alone. Redesigning a bathroom is out of reach for many people due to cost, not desire. If you want to keep your dream alive, I am here to share my favorite tips to bring spa elements into your bathroom without breaking the bank.
Introduce a new shower curtain and liner
An obvious solution, but don’t underestimate how much it can change the feel of a space and give it a fresh, new style. In older homes, it’s common to have a shower surround with glass doors. In this case, you can use a tension rod and hang a soft and sassy new shower curtain in front of the doors. Poof! Just like that, your eyesore becomes sore no more and for a lot less money than replacing those sad, old doors. Be sure to check local discount or outlet stores to stretch your dollars.
Add a new towel set
Luxurious towels add class and distinction to a bathroom, and even the most expensive sets are inexpensive relative to a major remodel. The fluffiness of fine towels introduces spa-like texture—and you’ll find a spectrum of colors to match any color palette you want to support or create. Tie in the towels with your new shower curtain and you’re well on the way to transforming the space. Again, check inexpensive stores and be sure to watch for sales—items don’t have to be expensive to look expensive.
Hang art
Check your storage (family and friends can be another source) for a perfect painting, sculpture or other work of art that could be dusted off and returned to duty. Or... splurge a bit and purchase something new that you love. One high-quality item can serve as the focal point that establishes the style of the entire room.
TIP: Introduce your art before buying anything else, that way you can pull colors from the artwork to select your other, less expensive items creating a unified look and feel.
Re-purpose accessories:
If you’re like me, you have a multitude of unused glass vases, jars, bowls or baskets sitting about. If not, a little money in a discount store goes a long way. Be creative! Fill a vase with dried flowers, beads, shells, glass—or even rocks, seed pods or fresh flowers from your yard. A clear bowl filled with potpourri serves up beauty and aroma at a low cost. And don’t forget mood lighting by bringing in candles. Various shapes and sizes can add interest, as well.
Add a comfy rug:
Pamper your tootsies! Nothing feels better underfoot than a soft, plush rug. Placed in front of your vanity, it will be a little piece of heaven and protection from the reality of a cold, hard floor early in the morning. A new rug also creates an opportunity to add color, texture, and luxury to your bath.
The total for these spa makeover tips is hundreds not thousands of dollars, and with frugal shopping you can keep your costs even lower. I hope you are inspired to bump your bathroom to the top of your to-do list. Put your decor together, clean your room from top to bottom and you’ll create your own stunning retreat space. No one will know what you spent, and I promise they’ll be impressed.
Now, what will you do next to love where you live?
