5 Ways to Add Warmth & Interest to a White Interior

White walls tend to get a bad rap. Many people think you should put color on your walls. I tend to be one of those people who preaches color, color, color! However, I do think there are times when white walls can be beautiful. They can make a space feel bright, clean, and fresh. In this blog I’ll share ideas to bring in warmth, texture, or color to turn a bland white interior into a wow interior!

5 Ideas to Add Some Pizazz:

1. Add an accent wall with a façade. Think beautiful warm reds of brick or gorgeous browns, blues or greens found in stone. Adding an accent wall like this not only brings some warmth to your room through the colors, it also adds texture, which in turn adds interest.

2. Bring in wood. Obviously, there are numerous ways to add wood to your space. You can introduce floors, furniture, molding, casings around doors and windows, even blinds. Bringing in the warm tones of wood will certainly add warmth, color, and texture to your white room.

3. Place a colorful area rug. The amount of color and texture you can add to a white room with this one is only limited by your imagination. Area rugs come in a huge number of different sizes, shapes, textures, and colors. Often a rug makes a perfect main accent in a white room turning it from blah to beautiful.

4. Don’t forget lighting. Don’t just think about the actual light that comes from your lighting (although that can certainly make a room feel and look more warm), but consider the fixture itself. From table lamps to pendant lights, you’ll find an enormous variety of sizes, shapes, finishes, textures, and colors. Incorporating beautiful lighting into your white room could add interest, color, and warmth as well as texture. And don’t forget to shop the thrift stores if you want to pursue Redesign principles.

5. Make “Wow!” window treatments. Talk about variety! Window treatments are made from all different kinds of materials from wood and rattan to very textured fabric and about anything else you can imagine. The colors are endless and the impact can be immense. This is a terrific way to get color and texture on your walls in addition to or instead of traditional wall treatments.

Make White Work

White can create a gorgeous interior space. Unfortunately, without the right items to go those white walls, it can also feel bland, boring, or almost clinical. By simply adding some color and texture through some of the above solutions, you can avoid the blahs. For each solution you can find a price points to fit any budget.
