Five Easy Changes to Update Your Interior

Itching to change the look of your home’s interior but inflation’s putting a damper on your disposable income? I sympathize. We’re all feeling it. So, this may not be the year for a major remodel or update, but you can make smaller changes that will still bring about a big impact. The best part is these small changes are super easy and they won’t break the bank! So read on to learn how you can pursue an affordable refresh.

Surprisingly Simple Changes

1. Bring in new doorknobs to add fun and interest. Doorknobs get a bad rap. They’re definitely not dumb. In fact, you can find interesting doorknobs online as well as at a repurposing store like Habitat for Humanity Restore. Whether you’re seeking something new and sleek or older knobs with charm and character, you’d be surprised how these small items can add a touch of style and class to your space. I’ve found some of my favorites digging through boxes of old door and cabinet hardware. Super cool money savers!

2. Change out cabinet hardware: Updating the look of your kitchen or bath can be as simple as installing new hardware on your cabinets and drawers. New hinges and handles can immediately add pizzazz to a tired look. Again, be sure to check out online options as you can often get a better price if you’re buying in bulk. You’ll also want to check your local thrift and repurposing stores. Why not save some money and get something that makes your room truly unique?

3. Update window treatments: If you have curtains or drapery on your windows, an update can be as simple as adding or changing trim and tiebacks. Again, you can get creative with this finishing touch and keep it very inexpensive. Look online for inspiration. It’s the quickest way to find options even if you want to buy in person.

4. Change or embellish lampshades: You can do this in several ways, anything from painting them to covering them with fabric or adding trim. You’ll find great tutorials online that show you how to tackle these fun DIY projects quite easily. Obviously, you can also change the shades altogether for a different style or color. Check the thrifts as well Dollar Stores for trim and you just might find options that keep you from paying full price.

5. Change or recover throw pillows: This is one of my favorites. You might say I have a pillow fetish. My hubby would agree. If you’re like me you know having new pillows is just fun!  It can also be very affordable to if you buy just covers for the existing pillows that you have. Be creative and consider all the different textures, patterns, and colors you can bring to your space. If bling is your thing, add trim or buttons for that extra dimension of pillow magic.

Why Simple Is Often Best

These changes may seem so small, you might think they would be insignificant in a whole room. Untrue! If you put in the time and effort find just the right items, even these little items, you will end up making a big difference. The other big benefit to this option is that it’s simple that not only means less $$$ but less time. And who doesn’t want more time for life’s other little pleasures, besides DIY and design? Although I’m pretty good as long as I have DIY and design!
